JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to assist in daily tasks related to finding and sharing news on Instagram, our newsletter, and our podcast. This is a hands-on opportunity to work in a fast-paced news environment, gaining valuable experience in social media management, content creation, and journalism. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Instagram, basic video editing, and Canva, with a keen interest in journalism and news media.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A background or experience in journalism and/or working in the news media. 

• Demonstrated familiarity with and consumption of daily news, including on social media platforms.

• Familiarity with Mo News and a strong understanding of our brand.

• Experience with research, reporting, fact-checking, and editing

• Attention to detail and deadlines

• Strong familiarity with Instagram, including creating and sharing content.

• Basic video editing skills (trimming, stitching clips).

• Experience with Canva or willingness to learn.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.

• Passion for news and eagerness to learn about the evolving media landscape.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Social Media Content Creation & Curation:

GOAL: Assist in finding, creating, and sharing news content on Instagram to keep our audience informed and engaged.

• Assisting in editorial research and content creation for Mo News social platforms (IG, Tiktok, Youtube)

• Help source and curate news stories that align with Mo News’ mission and tone.

• Use basic video editing skills to trim, stitch, and create clips for Instagram stories and posts.

2. Newsletter & Podcast Support:

GOAL: Contribute to the daily production of our newsletter and podcast, ensuring accuracy and relevance in content.

• Researching and writing scripts for daily podcast, newsletter stories

• Help manage podcast and newsletter production, including research, prep, and distribution of episodes.

• Provide feedback and contribute ideas for content improvements.

3. General Content Design and Creation

GOAL: Create visually appealing graphics and compelling copy to accompany Mo News content on Instagram and in the newsletter.

• Use Canva (or other design software) to design simple graphics for social media posts and stories.

• Ensure all designs align with the Mo News brand and style.

• Assist with video and photo shoots.

4. Learning & Development:

GOAL: Gain valuable experience in journalism, content creation, and digital media.

• Shadow team members to learn the ropes of content production in a fast-paced news environment.

• Take initiative to explore new tools and strategies for delivering news on digital platforms.

PAY RANGE:

$15 - $20 / hour
