Good afternoon,
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT, says the internet’s obsession with the platform’s new image-generation feature is overloading their systems, melting their servers, and keeping the team from their beauty rest.
Turns out, giving the people a chance to turn images of their pets and kids into muppets might’ve been too much power.
Altman posted on X: “It’s super fun seeing people love images in ChatGPT. But our GPUs are melting. We are going to temporarily introduce some rate limits while we work on making it more efficient,” adding that they will temporarily limit the feature’s usage until they can improve its efficiency.
And listen… I might be the problem here. Before they put the breaks on the new feature, I spent the weekend turning myself and my dog into adorable animations. Sorry not sorry, Sam, Ghibli Me was worth it.
The new image tool is available for Plus, Pro, and Team users, with free users expected to get access soon (but limited to three images a day).

🚨 ONE IMPORTANT THING
Americans' Economic Outlook Getting More Pessimistic As Tariff Deadlines Approach
Americans are getting increasingly concerned about President Trump’s economic policies, which were key to his 2024 campaign, as prices remain high and tariffs are set to go into effect this week.
Looking ahead: On Wednesday, Trump’s proposed reciprocal tariffs and a 25% levy on foreign cars are set to take effect. By Friday, we’ll get the March jobs report, which could see a rise in the unemployment rate.
It comes as fears about a recession are hitting Wall Street and Main Street amid talks of stagflation — stagnant US economic growth + elevated inflation. Meanwhile, stocks have taken a hit — the S&P 500 had its worst first quarter since 2022.
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS
A CBS poll this weekend found that the majority of Americans (64%) say Trump is not focusing enough on lowering prices. Consumers are cutting back on spending as they feel increasingly pessimistic about their economic futures.
What’s behind the gloom? First, there’s fear of a recession, which the Trump administration has not ruled out. Second, many individuals feel that prices are rising or have remained high — despite inflation subsiding from its 2022 peak, though it’s still above the Fed’s 2% goal.
SOME GOOD NEWS
One of the most inflationary items in the past year is finally seeing some relief: egg prices have been plunging in recent days, as the spread of the deadly bird flu slows down and imports have increased to fill the gap.
🚨 ONE THING MAKING HEADLINES
Inside The Most Expensive Judicial Race In History
Billionaire and Trump ally Elon Musk gave away two $1 million checks to people who voted in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race and would be “spokesmen” for an online petition against “activist” judges. He has spent roughly $20 million to boost the conservative candidate, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel, who is running against liberal candidate and Obama-backed Susan Crawford.
Tomorrow, voters in Wisconsin will decide if the state’s Supreme Court leans right or left in an extraordinarily expensive and closely watched election. Voters in two Trump stronghold districts in Florida are also heading to the polls.
WHY WE CARE ABOUT WISCONSIN
One of the liberal justices is stepping down, and the candidate elected will serve a 10-year term, shaping state policies around abortion, voting, and unions. The court may also be taking up Congressional redistricting in the swing state, which could determine which party controls the House.
It’s become the most expensive judicial race in American history, with more than $90 million spent on both candidates.
For context, that’s more than all but a few Senate races.
Trump won Wisconsin by less than 1 percentage point in the 2024 election and lost by less than a percentage point in 2020.
THE MUSK FACTOR
Wisconsin’s 4-3 liberal majority Supreme Court unanimously refused to hear a case on Sunday that could have blocked Musk’s $1 million checks.
Musk made similar $1 million pledges to voters during the presidential election last year, and a Pennsylvania judge ruled he could give them out – despite legal challenges arguing that they amounted to bribery.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT ELECTION
Meanwhile, President Trump has been heavily involving himself in two special elections in Florida that are much more competitive than expected. Republicans are heavily favored to win both seats, where Trump won by over 30 points in both districts in 2024. However, Democrats are out-fundraising Republicans and polling closer than the fall election results.
In Florida’s Sixth Congressional District, Democratic candidate Josh Weil – an Orlando school teacher – is out-raising Republican state Senator Randy Fine by nearly 10 to 1.
That election is to replace the U.S. House seat vacated by Mike Waltz, Trump’s national security adviser.
The other election is to replace former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who resigned after Trump nominated him for attorney general, but later withdrew his nomination.
The race is between Republican Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, and Democrat Gay Valimont, a gun control activist.
🚨 ONE THING THAT’S NOT GONNA HAPPEN (WE ARE PRETTY SURE)
The Legality Of A Third Trump Term
President Trump is not dismissing the idea of pursuing a third term in the White House, despite the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution prohibiting it.
He told NBC on Sunday that “there are methods” to achieve this, and even emphasized that he was “not joking.” He remarked that “a lot of people” wanted him to serve again, but that he’s “focused on the current” term.
The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1951 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected four times, states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
ALTERNATIVE PATHS?
One scenario being tossed around is Vice President JD Vance running for president with Trump as his running mate. Then, Vance would resign to allow Trump to become president again. Many legal scholars say that would also be unconstitutional because, according to the 12th Amendment of the Constitution, “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President.”
Two-thirds of Congress and three-fourths of states are required to amend the Constitution, which is unlikely.
NPR looked at some of the VERY UNLIKELY ways Trump could still try to get another term.
The president will be 82 at the end of this term, about six months older than Biden was at the end of his last term — he would be 86 by the end of a third term.
