Hello fellow snackers!

Apparently, science has weighed in on the “correct way to snack.”

According to a new study, we get about a quarter of our calories from snacks. The main takeaways: 1. Snacking isn’t necessarily bad. 2 Try to have nutritious foods. 3. Don’t snack after 9pm.

Have a good one!

🗞 CONGRESS LOOKS TO REVEAL UFO “COVER-UP”

It’s not just the stuff of science fiction anymore. The US government is holding a historic UFO hearing today. Though, they are using a new term these days.

UFOs are out. UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena) are in. It’s a new term that includes any craft of phenomena seen in space or underwater that can’t be identified.

HOW TO WATCH
The hearing starts at 10am ET. And you can watch it HERE.

WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?
The House Subcommittee on National Security, the Border and Foreign Affairs will be holding today’s hearing.

Testifying Wednesday are 3 witnesses who claim to have encounters with UAP while on the job. They’ve already released their opening statements.

David Fravor, an ex-Navy commander

  • He’s one of the pilots who flew close to the Tic Tac-shaped craft, video of which has gone viral (see above).

  • Ryan Graves, a former fighter pilot for the Navy

    • As part of his opening statement, Graves wrote: “UAP are in our airspace, but they are grossly underreported. These sightings are not rare or isolated; they are routine.”

    • He recently told Newsweek that he hopes lawmakers “gain a sense of the stigma I experienced coming forward and the frustration that commercial pilots experience that there is no way to report UAP to the government."

  • David Grusch, a former U.S. intelligence officer

Washington bureaucrats have kept this information hidden for decades, and we're finally going to shed some light on it. The American people deserve the truth. We're done with the cover-ups.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?
It wasn’t long ago that UFOs were the stuff of conspiracy theories and sci-fi movies. But now, this seems to be one area in which Republicans and Democrats are able to work together and find some agreement.

About a year ago, the Department of Defense created the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office or AARO. The goal is to "detect, identify and attribute" mysterious objects of interest in the air, in outer space and underwater, focusing on potential threats to military operations and national security.

The head of AARO, Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, told ABC News that they’ll follow the data. Asked whether he thinks intelligent extraterrestrial life exists, he says "I think it's statistically unrealistic to think" it does’t, and that finding it would be "probably the best outcome of this job."

BY THE NUMBERS
The Pentagon's new office for investigating potential UFO sightings received hundreds of new reports in 2022. While it can explain more than half of those events, including new technology from countries like China, a big portion are still a mystery.

  • Within the new batch of sightings, the AARO says they're focusing on 171 cases — including some in which objects "appear to have demonstrated unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities, and require further analysis."

  • Back in April, government officials said the AARO "has found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology or objects that defy the known laws of physics."

✔︎Mo News Reality Check: There’s a lot of excitement building around today’s hearings. Some UFO enthusiasts are hosting online watch parties or trying to get into the hearing in person. And, members of Congress say they want to expose facts and avoid conspiratorial tones.

But regardless of what happens today, the idea of UFOs is no longer the making of sci-fi. As we mentioned, there’s the newly formed AARO. In the Senate, there’s a bipartisan push to add an amendment to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act to force the Pentagon to release more information.

As the LA Times points out, “while the issue can generate snickers from some in Congress, serious lawmakers in both parties think it’s crucial for national security to figure out what these phenomena are — and where they’re coming from.”
