Understanding U.S. Immigration
A Conversation with Dr. Austin C. Kocher
In this workshop, we dove into one of today's most debated topics: immigration. We kicked things off by laying out key historical context, going all the way back to the 1800s to explain how U.S. immigration laws got to where they are today. We discussed how different presidents—including Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden—have shaped policies on both legal and illegal immigration.
Our guest was Dr. Austin Kocher, a political and legal geographer from Syracuse University, who brought clear and valuable insights into immigration enforcement and policy. He helped us break down Trump's immigration agenda, explained the legal impacts, and connected recent headlines to the broader immigration picture.
Our hope is that this workshop will help you feel more confident in your own understanding of U.S. immigration, so that you’ll be ready to lead the conversation among your own friends and family.
